In 2015, an array of Bay Area business owners–lawyers, realtors, business coaches, massage therapists, construction contractors, authors, scientists, publicists, corporate executives, therapists–trusted me to photograph them and help them stand out from their crowded fields.
During our pre-shoot consultation, I interview clients about what they want their portrait to say about their business and their personalities. We develop a few keywords that describe them: serious, friendly, trusting, intelligent, easy-going. Their list of keywords helps guide us during their session and during the selection of the photos. For example, a therapist might want to be seen as approachable, empathic, friendly, smart. A lawyer might want to appear tough, no-nonsense, smart.
I don’t have a cookie-cutter approach. My mastery of lighting, posing and mood-setting allows me to bring out each client’s personality and message to create something as unique as each person.
